In partnership with the Henry County Water Authority (HCWA), Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) has launched a Summer Institute Internship Program for rising high school juniors and seniors to explore STEM careers through technical education. This unique collaboration provides students with a paid internship program in the fields of water treatment, wastewater treatment, IT, reservoirs and grounds, advanced metering infrastructure, water loss, and purchasing and inventory. The internship program will begin on June 2 and will conclude on July 25, 2025, providing interns with an immersive experience during the summer months.
This summer internship program will offer an incredible opportunity for a limited number of students to gain valuable real-world experience while receiving financial compensation. Selected interns will be provided the chance to enhance their knowledge and skills in their chosen field while working alongside professionals at the Henry County Water Authority. As a part of the Summer Institute Internship Program, interns are also enrolled in select Southern Crescent Technical College courses. These courses run concurrently with the internship program, allowing students to earn college credits while gaining practical experience.
Students will have the opportunity to also enroll in SCTC’s Water Quality Technician Technical Certificate of Credit program. The program consists of four courses being offered evenings, weekends, and online beginning with the summer semester. Any interested individual is invited to register for the Water Quality Technician program which will begin May 21. Students are able to earn the certificate in as little as one semester, enabling them to take the board licensure examination.
As one key highlight of this program, each intern is assigned an experienced HCWA employee mentor. These mentors provide guidance, share industry insights, and offer support to help interns maximize their learning and professional growth. The mentorship aspect of the program will further enrich the interns’ experience and help them build valuable connections in their chosen field.
HCWA and SCTC are committed to providing opportunities for students to explore and pursue careers in high-demand fields. Through this partnership, they aim to foster a passion for water treatment, wastewater treatment, IT, reservoirs and grounds, advanced metering infrastructure, water loss, and purchasing and inventor, offering a stepping stone for students interested in these rewarding professions.
An information session for the HCWA Summer Internship will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 5:30pm at our SCTC Henry County Center, 300 Lakemont Drive, McDonough, GA. For more information, and to register for the information session, please visit www.sctech.edu/STEMSummerInstitute.
