Southern Crescent Technical College is excited to announce that Henry County English as a Second Language (ESL)/Adult Basic Education (ABE) instructor, Jennifer Gutierrez, was chosen as Adult Education’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year (OTOY). Ms. Gutierrez was nominated by her peers at the College for this honor.

The Adult Education OTOY program is designed to recognize and honor our most outstanding Adult Education teachers who make significant contributions to the field through instruction, innovation, and leadership. These outstanding teachers participate in school and community activities, they understand the importance of and are committed to the Adult Education profession, and they exemplify excellence. The OTOY has a deep commitment to the mission of the Office of Adult Education (OAE).

Ms. Gutierrez began working as a full-time instructor with the program at Southern Crescent Technical College’s Griffin Campus in 2022.  Since then, she has moved to the Henry Center and has been a shining example of a caring instructor that is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that her students have the greatest chance for success.   She works diligently to serve our ABE students working on their GED during the day and training our ESL students in the evening.

The OAE Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award Winner serves as a professional-level ambassador for Adult Education in Georgia as the TCSG OAE’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year. The winner makes many public appearances (virtual or in-person) throughout the year, including presenting before the TCSG State Board, college presidents, city/state officials, the General Assembly of the State of Georgia and other speaking engagement opportunities in order to promote Adult Education.
