SCTC Foundation Awards 41 Scholarships for Spring Semester

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation has awarded 41 scholarships totaling $17,500 for students enrolled in the College for the Fall 2024 semester.  Scholarships are funded by both internal and external donors and are awarded each semester based on specific requirements determined by the donor.

The Tiger Campaign GED/Advancement-to-College Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent Southern Crescent Technical College GED graduate (completed within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded four $250 scholarships, totaling $1,000, for the Spring 2025 semester to:

The Tiger Campaign High School-to-College Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Two, $250 scholarships were awarded for Spring 2025 to the following students:

The Tiger Campaign Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded five $250 scholarships for a total of $1,250. The students receiving scholarships for the Spring 2025 Semester are:

The Tiger Campaign Miracle Workers Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship for a student who is not eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or the Pell Grant and/or any other financial aid. The Tiger Campaign Miracle Workers is named in honor of the winning team for the Internal Tiger Campaign for Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded two $900 scholarships for a total of $1,800. The students receiving scholarships for the Spring 2025 semester are:

The Tiger Campaign Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship for a student in a certificate, diploma, or degree program at Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded five $250 scholarships for a total of $1,250. The students receiving scholarships for the Spring 2025 semester are:

The Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas and A.J. Thomas Memorial Tuition Scholarship

is a $250 tuition scholarship for a student in a certificate, diploma, or degree program.  Dr. Thomas was President of Southern Crescent Technical College from 2016-2021 and took pride in building strong students, strong careers, and strong communities. Her husband, A. J., was a lifelong proponent of education who believed that education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Spring 2025 semester to:

The Becky Parris Rector Nursing Scholarship is a $300 tuition scholarship for a Nursing student that is a single parent.  Becky Parris Rector earned her ADN from a technical college while raising two children under the age of six. She sacrificed so much to stay in school while caring for her children and working part-time to make ends meet. Her degree enabled her to continually lift her family up and support them her entire career. The Foundation awarded one $300 scholarship for the 2025 Spring semester to:

The Debbie Dawson Memorial ARRT Scholarship is an annual $225 award for a senior Radiologic Technology student, who does not qualify for WIOA. The award will be used to cover the expense of applying for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) national registration. It is awarded in the Spring semester, payable to ARRT.

Deborah R. Dawson, B.M.Sc., R.T.(R) (05/18/1955 – 03/04/2020) retired from Southern Crescent Technical College in 2015 after 24 years teaching and leading the Radiologic Technology Program. In honor of her memory, the scholarship was established to help Radiologic Technology students with their final expense of the program.  Debbie touched the lives of so many during their educational journey and she will be remembered for her kind, caring, and loving spirit. Her memory lives on through the actions of all those she trained to provide skillful, knowledgeable, and compassionate care of patients in diagnostic radiography. Debbie was dedicated, ethical, and selfless in her actions. She was loved by many and is missed by all. The student receiving this scholarship for Spring 2025 is:

The Eugene Edwards Plumbing Scholarship is a $200 scholarship awarded to a student who aspires to earn his or her state plumber’s license. The student must abide by the standards of Southern Crescent Technical College and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship will be awarded in honor of the late President Emeritus Eugene Edwards. Mr. Edwards enjoyed the work; he was a forty-year Master Plumber. He was truly a pillar in the Henry County community. He became President Emeritus after serving as branch president of the Henry County NAACP for ten years. The Eugene Edwards Plumbing Scholarship will be awarded to a student in a Plumbing program for the purchase of program-required textbooks and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies for the student in the plumbing program. This scholarship, in the amount of $200, was awarded to the following student for the Spring 2025 semester:

The Georgia Power Company Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship funded by the Georgia Power Company for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms and/or equipment. The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500. Those receiving the scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester are:

The Gateway to Hope NCLEX-RN Scholarship is a $240 scholarship awarded to a minority nursing student showing a financial need. The scholarship is to cover the cost of the NCLEX-RN exam and license fee and will be awarded to a student in his or her final semester of the ASN program. The “Gateway to Hope Scholarship” is established by Dr. Gayla Hope Love to pay-it-forward. Dr. Love understands how the power of education can change the life of a minority nursing student and this is her way of supporting the next generation of nurses. One $240 scholarship was awarded for Spring 2025 to:

The Justin Peeples Memorial Computer Information Systems Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program for the purchase of program-required textbooks and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship was established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at Southern Crescent Technical College who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011.This scholarship was awarded to the following student for the Spring 2025 semester:

The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,100 tuition, textbook & toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school, and are the first in their family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree) enrolled in one of the following programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Foundation awarded seven $1,100 scholarships for a total of $7,700. The students receiving scholarships for Spring 2025 semester are:

The Martin/Kimbrough “Red Jellybean” Memorial Cosmetology Textbook Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in a Cosmetology or Nail Technology program. The scholarship was established in memory of Carol Martin and Charlene Kimbrough. One scholarship in the amount of $250 was awarded for the Spring 2025 semester to:

The Rotary Club of Peachtree City Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-related required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, licensure examinations, and/or supplies for a student who lives in Fayette County and is enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or degree program. The applicant must be a resident of Fayette County, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be in good academic standing. The Foundation awarded four $250 scholarships for a total of $1,000. The Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for students pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. This scholarship was established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Spring 2025 semester to:

The Spalding County Pickleball Association Practical Nursing Tuition Scholarship is a $500 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Practical Nursing program. The Spalding County Pickleball Association is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization promoting and growing pickleball for the betterment of our community through active lifestyle, health & well-being, exercise and fitness, sports tourism, and economic impact. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester to:

The Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship awarded to any student. This scholarship was established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester to:

 

Sierra Jones Patient Care Assistant Technical Certificate of Credit Henry

 

The Walker Cook Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship established in memory of Walker Cook who passed away in 2017, and was a former Griffin resident and husband of Barbara Jo Cook, V.P. for Advancement at SCTC. Walker was a life-long educator who believed education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester to:

The William R. and Sara Babb Smith Foundation Scholarship is a $500 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship is for a Southern Crescent Technical College student who is a Henry County resident. $250 of the funds will be applied to the bookstore for course-required textbooks and/or tools and $250 of the funds will be applied towards tuition. The Williams R. and Sara Beth Smith Foundation’s main focus is in the areas of education, youth development, and community service in Henry County. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for the Spring 2025 semester to:
